“Unmanned Valley is a location where drones can be experimented continuously and flexibly. With all indoor and outdoor testing facilities, Unmanned Valley is the perfect place to conduct flight tests with the Fusion Reflex flight controller. Furthermore, Unmanned Valley is the perfect ‘hub’ for Fusion Engineering to network. Because all companies in the Unmanned Valley ecosystem have a focus on the drone industry, there are many valuable connections to be made here.”
While drone hardware has come a long way over the past decades, we realized that software development has been lacking behind. We therefore set out on an ambitious project: developing drone control systems from scratch, while focusing on safety and reliability from the start. We have started from the ground up, developing our own flexible and reliable software platform. On top of this platform, we built innovative flight control algorithms to ensure more accurate positioning, disturbance rejection, and fault tolerance.
March 2021, Fusion Engineering’s first flight controller was launched: the Fusion Reflex Introductory Model (or in short, Fusion Reflex IM). This is the first flight controller based on INDI (Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion), a new technique designed at Delft University of Technology. The Reflex is currently being tested by several international partners. The Reflex will also be used in the Dutch AIRTuB program, where a drone is being developed for inspection and maintenance of wind turbine blades.
