The former Valkenburg naval air base – located 16 kilometers north of The Hague in the Netherlands – is a unique location for the municipality of Katwijk: it has all the space needed for a field lab and is situated close to knowledge institutions and companies that are desperate for a good test location.

The board of the foundation will consist of representatives of the municipality of Katwijk and Delft University of Technology. In addition, an Advisory Board will be set up to provide solicited and unsolicited advice. The initiators of the project, Prince Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje-Nassau and Lucas van Oostrum, have accepted the invitation to sit on the Advisory Board.

The creation of the foundation stems from a bid book for the development of Unmanned Valley presented in June 2016 by a coalition of private and public parties.
