According to experts, the use of drones goes far beyond efficient inspections. From analyzing crowds and traffic flows to conducting gas measurements and mapping underground pipes—the possibilities are numerous. Theo de Vries, director of Unmanned Valley, emphasizes that even freight and passenger transport could be possibilities in the future, although regulations and insurance are still challenges.

“The technological progress we’re making is impressive,” says Theo de Vries. “But it’s especially inspiring to see how drones can quickly move from experimental applications to daily operations. This is just the beginning of what we can achieve together with the Municipality of Rotterdam.”

Unmanned Valley has been working closely with the Municipality of Rotterdam for some time to get the drone team operational. We are proud of the milestones we have reached so far and look forward to further developments in drone technology. The daily use of drones by Rotterdam marks an important step forward.
